Gmail as default desktop client

I would like gmail to be my default email client on the desk top as
well as for internet links. I thought a URL in "Internet Options"
would do it, but nothing does, including notifier. Is this completely
impossible?

auto-complete works sporadically

For months the auto-complete feature worked fine, but now after I
choose the address for the first recipient (auto-complete works then),
when I try to type in the next address, I just hear that clunk sound
when I hit the key of the first letter of the next recipient's

"Still Working" message - Firefox/Gmail hanging

Gmail hangs and will not let me move forward. If I try in another
browse, no problem. If I close firefox, I then get an error that
firefox is already running and I am unable to kill thru task manager.

it is not automatically recorded in my sent emails box.

Forwarding messages that I DID NOT SET UP or authorize!

I checked my email today and noticed that I did not have ANY new
messages. Yeah right!
I waited for some time (a couple of hours) and noticed that I still
did not have any new messages.

Can't send Quark documents

I work in a small town newspaper office, and we use Quark on the iMacs
for or publishing. We recently started using gmail and have
discovered that we can not send the Quark files as attachments through
gmail. Is there any known way to resolve this? They come up as "mime-
